Every individual who takes this training will gain tremendous insight into a better method for product design and the software tools that can be used to improve cost, quality, weight, and time to market.
Product Design Engineers stand to gain the most from this course. This a new way of thinking coupled with a powerful set of product design tools will foster innovation and create more efficient and elegant designs. Product Design Engineers will be able to apply the tools in their job, but as we teach in this course, effective and innovative product design cannot happen in a bubble. Many different key players need to be involved in the product redesign or new concept phase to truly develop a Lean Design®.
Manufacturing and Process Engineers who take this course will gain a new understanding of the impact of product design on manufacturing. The new software tools provided will offer methods to avoid costly manufacturing pitfalls before they hit the factory floor or are designed into the product. Moreover, the tool can be used to map, analyze and improve manufacturing processes assuring a lean manufacturing enterprise. If needed, the tool can even quickly generate DFMEAs and PFMEAs (this is explored more in the Level Two Certification course).
Quality engineers can use the tool to input quality data (PPM, CpK) and quantify the Cost of Quality® (CoQ®) of components, systems or processes. Furthermore the tool can help to identify poor quality drivers and their associated cost impact. This analysis includes quality aspects related to product rework, service and warranty conditions.
Managers and perhaps Executive members of the team will also benefit greatly. They will gain an understanding of how the Lean Design® methodology and software tool set can be used and implemented to create better and more profitable designs in a shorter time frame.
Whether a new graduate or Manager, all will gain new skills in this course that will help advance designs and reenergize design creativity. CEO’s, Executives and Managers should encourage their engineering staff to take this course as it will positively impact the overall profitability of their products and the company.
